    This book is a must-read for anyone living in the UK. It genuinely made me laugh out loud, and gave me lots of food for thought, as Bryson has the ability to prise gems of information and insight from the apparently mundane.

    What an enjoyable read and an awesome follow-up. Laugh-out-loud funny at times, quite emotional at others. As a 41 year old Brit, it makes me a bit jealous that I haven't been to many of these places myself yet ...but it also makes me want to go to all of them as soon as possible. That means Bill's job is done.

    Bill Bryson has done it again. A funny, insightful and simply wonderful view of modern Britain. I gave many copies of this away for friends at Christmas. I hope they enjoy it as much as did.

    As anticipated this was a thoroughly entertaining read. I shy away from such phrases as 'side-splitting', but it was funny enough to make me repeatedly laugh out loud on multiple trains – as we all know that really is a terrible faux-pas ;-)

    For me, this is Bill Bryson at his best. Informative, very funny, a book that is hard to put down. He seems to say pretty much what most decent Brits are thinking. Great stuff, everyone should read this!

    I wondered whether this book would match Bill Bryson's past masterpieces. I need not have worried this is along the lines of his very funny earlier books. With his sarcastic humor and irreverent wit it is a great read.
