Little Women While their father is away at war, the four March sisters try their best to maintain life in their New England home. Fifteen-year-old Jo, modeled after author Louisa May Alcott, is a bit of a tomboy, tends to get in trouble, and loves writing. The oldest, Meg, works as a governess and puts herself in charge in the absence of their parents. The kind and charitable Beth loves music and being a caretaker. The youngest, Amy, is slightly spoiled and frustrated by being treated as the youngest.
Alcott gives us a realistic account of the girl’s lives – the ups and downs, tragedies and triumphs, successes and failures. It’s long remained one of the most relatable and appealing works of American literature.

    My favourite childhood book. This must be read with Good Wives. I can read this again and again. All the characters are based on authors own family and their reality spring from the pages. Their situations and predicaments alongside their development into young women is a journey of indescribable,unforgettable pleasure.

    This book is surprisingly enjoyable despite its unashamed sentimentality and persistent moralising. The characters are well drawn and have a pleasing Victorian innocence which is refreshing in our own, much more cynical, age. A good read.

    I've seen the film many times and always intended to read the book. It was such a lovely read, a lot of complicated words but with the simple option to look up the meanings it wasn't a problem. The movie is more up to date then the story and it's hard to picture anyone other then the actors from the film when reading about the characters but was still a fantastic read, and to get it for free, BONUS!
