    The plot is telegraphed and cliched, the ‘twist’ obvious from about the seventh page, the dialogue is risible and people in that village get through a LOT of porridge. Avoid. I gave a second star because the ‘goes missing at a French service station’ plot reminded me of the Dutch film “the vanishing” (der sporloos) which is much better use of a couple of hours than this book.

    I never usually get around to leaving reviews but I can’t get this book off my mind! With thrillers I can usually guess what’s happened half way through but I kept getting it wrong the whole time! Brilliant plot, a slow steady middle, and a twist at the end. Highly recommend.

    Enjoyed this book until I reached the twist and thought it was a bit stupid. Haven’t read any others by this author so don’t think I will now. Such a shame as I was really enjoying and expecting more

    I have read the previous 2 books and was expecting a good read, but this time the story just dragged on. It felt like i was reading the same info over and over again. When the ending finally came i knew exactly what the "twist" was and was just glad it was finished.

    I think one other review sums this up - none of the characters are remotely likeable - except the dog. So I didn’t care what happened to any of them. I guessed the twist in the middle then I just wanted the book to be over. I find this author so changeable. I hated (really hated) Behind Closed Doors but I loved The Breakdown. This is in the middle but nearer BCD.

    I can't decide what I thought of this book. I love this author have enjoyed her last two books because of her twits, turns and gripping writing style. Bring me back did keep me hooked and engaged, I did read it very quickly but I wasn't shocked as I thought I would be and felt the last few pages didn't have me gripped as I'd hoped as the story took a strange turn. I generally did like the book in parts, it did keep me reading, I would have liked more clues or twists and turns throughout like the others. HUGE fan of this author and I will buy more of her books, just not 100% sure on this one.

    If you have read 'Behind closed doors' by the same author, you will be very very disappointed with this storyline. The ending was such a disappointment and the story dragged. Gotta do better on the next book BAParis 😩

    It was ok. Just ok. I like the fact that it kept me guessing all the way through but the twist at the end, although unexpected, was a little silly. I kinda hoped for me. The end was also a little rushed. Still worth a read for the price
